Paul Carver

Paul-Caver-300x225Bsc, Msc, PG Dip Health Psych.

Before working at Vision Psychology, Paul Carver was running a large primary care mental health service for a population of 177,000 in New Zealand, with 66 contracted Psychologists and Therapists. Paul was responsible for the quality of the mental health service, and also worked as a clinician.

Prior to this he worked as a social worker with children, young people and families, calling on people at home and often working at quite a practical level to find solutions to problems. What this means is that Paul has a very wide range of experience, has been very effective as a clinician, and is focussed on bringing the very best evidence-based treatments to people.

Paul trained in the Department of Psychological Medicine at Auckland University (the home of psychiatry) as a Health Psychologist, so he has a good understanding of the burden that living with a chronic physical condition can bring, and how to live well despite physical limitations. Paul understands the mind-body connection. Distress or stress can have a big impact on our bodies. Paul has developed innovative and integrated treatment processes for physical conditions where there may be a psychological component, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Paul loves working with people. There is incredible magic in therapy: the combination of a good therapeutic relationship, the right treatment, and what the client brings, can shift almost anything. Paul has a flexible collaborative approach, tailored to what the client wants and resonates with.
